Roof advice
How Can You Stop Moss Coming Back on Your Roof?
You cannot stop it forever, but you can slow it down.

The short answer
Moss grows where a roof stays damp and shaded. You cannot guarantee it will never return, but keeping gutters clear, trimming back trees and having the roof cleaned before growth gets heavy all help.
What helps
- Trimming back overhanging trees to let in light and air
- Keeping gutters clear so water drains away
- Having moss removed before it builds up
- Asking us about a treatment after cleaning
What does not help
Blasting a roof with a pressure washer can damage tiles and force water under them. A careful hand removal and low-pressure treatment is the better approach.
Be realistic
Moss can return, especially on north-facing, shaded slopes. We can tell you what is likely for your roof.
Questions
How soon does moss come back?
It depends on shade, trees, the roof pitch and the weather. We explain what to expect for your property.
Can you stop it coming back?
We cannot promise that. A treatment after cleaning helps, but growth can return.
Should I clear the gutters too?
Yes, blocked gutters keep roof edges damp. We can do both.
