Roof cleaning advice
Should You Pressure Wash a Roof?
It is a common question, and the answer is usually no. Here is why.

The short answer
High pressure can damage roof tiles and force water under them, so a roof is normally better cleaned by taking the moss off by hand and treating the surface at low pressure. We assess your roof before choosing a method.
What can go wrong with high pressure
- Damage to the surface of tiles
- Water forced under and between tiles
- Loosened or displaced tiles
- Debris pushed into gutters and down pipes
How we approach a roof
We look at the roof covering, the pitch, the height and how much growth there is. Moss is taken off by hand, and the roof is then treated at low pressure with a suitable treatment. Gutters and the roofline can be cleared and washed as part of the job, where agreed.
Safety and neighbours
Roof work is done at height, so access is planned before the job. We also talk to neighbours where moss debris and treatment may affect their property.
Questions
Do you ever use pressure on a roof?
Our method is hand removal and low-pressure treatment. We look at the specific roof before deciding.
Will the moss come back?
It can, because the conditions that let it grow are still there. We will explain what to expect for your roof.
How do you get up to the roof?
It depends on the property. We assess access and the safest approach before we quote.
