Why Is My Conservatory Roof Green, and How Is It Cleaned?

Conservatory roofs collect dirt and green growth that is hard to see and harder to reach.

Cleaning a Conservatory Roof by Your House Wash

The short answer

Algae and dirt build up on conservatory roof panels and frames, particularly in shade and under trees. It is cleaned by treating and gently washing the panels and framework, with the method chosen for the material.

Why conservatory roofs go green

Panels and frames hold dirt, and damp, shaded areas let algae take hold. Overhanging trees, bird droppings and leaf litter add to it, and the pitch of the roof means water does not always rinse it clear.

What cleaning involves

We look at how the roof is built, what the panels and frames are made of, their condition and the access. The panels and framework are then cleaned using an appropriate low-pressure method, and the result is checked from inside and out where possible.

Things to know

  • Cleaning is not a repair. Leaks, failed seals and damaged panels need a specialist
  • Old or brittle panels need extra care
  • Growth can return in shady spots

Questions

Can you clean the inside of the roof?

Please ask. We will say what is possible for your conservatory when we quote.

Will cleaning stop leaks?

No. Cleaning does not repair leaks or failed seals. If we notice something that looks wrong we will tell you.

Do you use pressure?

Not as a default. The method depends on the materials and their condition.
